Take steady steps
Enhancing dormitory committee members’ participation in disaster prevention and safety training, improving their awareness, skills, and values related to disaster prevention, and developing adaptabilities for dormitory environments are fundamental annual goals of the Student Housing Services Division under the Office of Student Affairs. Through the professional planning of the dormitory supervisors of Re Cheng Hall to strengthen educational campaigns on disaster prevention, such as blazes. These initiatives aim to equip dormitory committee members with heightened vigilance and effective disaster response skills, ensuring the safety of students residing in dormitories.
New appearance of students in new generation
Guiding the dormitory committee members trained by CYCU to become active assistants to the creative integration of dormitories significantly enhances the overall image of the dormitories. The primary goal of the Student Housing Services Division is to establish and create a co-creation and co-learning environment within the dormitories, through diverse exchange activities to activate the new generation of students to embrace transformative learning, engage in group interactions, stimulate creative potential, and implement a living aesthetic in their daily environments.
The environment education during the summer vacation
In order to make students more aware of the assistance the dormitory offers them during summer vacation, Re Cheng Hall proposes a project to promote the environment of the dormitory. Upon being planned by SUN, YU-LIN, one of the dormitory supervisors in the Re Cheng Hall, the dormitory took action to care about the environmental education of accommodation and to listen to the demands and ideas of international students. The dormitory was expected to enhance environmental quality and create a learning environment for the new generation of students, making the dormitory not only for accommodation but also for learning and peer interaction.
The management and service interaction of dormitory committees.
In addition to specializing in majors, university life in the dormitories holds multiple educational significance. The Student Housing Service Division recruits new dormitory committee members to service the residents annually. This year is the 1st time handling the exchange meeting for the discussion and interaction among the committee members of each dormitory, allowing students to share experiences from such aspects like public order obeying, life management services, and environmental education, etc. These contents indicate that CYCU is deeply concern about the quality of the dormitory environment, the safety of dormitory spaces and transformational suggestions of life.
Second-hand Sale
Residents of the dormitory donate their unused things, and the dormitory committee organizes and collects the items, marks the price, and displays them in the second-hand sale area for free purchasing to revitalize the items again. In the Li Shing, Lian Shan, and En Tzu dormitories, many people responded enthusiastically. The main focus of the trading is to help the disadvantaged groups. Together, we turn the spare things into love to help more people in need. Let the unused items find a good home and find the right person for them.
Feels Like “Home”
Chung Yuan Christian University has always been to improve the quality of life in the dormitory, and the accommodation environment tends to be more friendly. It also allows foreign students to be more relaxed and comfortable in the dormitory as their own home. Every year, advisers of Re Cheng dormitory always celebrate Eid al-Fitr with students as Chinese New Year to Chinese. We pray for peace, academic success, and happiness in the coming year.
Promotion of Environment-sustainable Development
Environmental Education (EE) is one of the key trends that the Student Housing Service Division is actively engaged in training dormitory committee members. In order to help the dormitory staff not be limited to the framework of dormitory service, the school introduced them to the Jian Zi Li Environmental Education Center , where they were able to cultivate environmental literacy and explore the field of environmental education in a hands-on way so that they could experience the real situation.
Outstanding Foreign Dormitory Committee Member
There are foreign students from different countries in the school dormitory. Yang, XinGen, a student from Surabaya, Indonesia, from the Department of International Business, lives in the Re Cheng Boys’ Dormitory and serves as a dormitory staff in charge of the foreign section during the semester. He is responsible for the management and communication among foreign students, exchange students, and interns. Also, he serves as the president of the Chung Yuan Indonesian Students Association. Not only is he proficient in five languages, including Chinese, English, French, Japanese, and Bahasa Indonesia, but also excellent in both his character and in cooking Western food.
Practice Truthfulness, Action, Sincerity, Goodness, and Kindness
The dormitories on the campus are divided into five buildings: Li Hsing Hall, En Tzu Hall, Lian Shan Hall, Hsin Shih Hall and Re Cheng Hall; The Student Housing Service Division is responsible for housing related work, with a total of 13 members in the group, including 1 team leader, 10 dormitory supervisor, 1 general group, and 1 residential business specialist. The Student Housing Service Division acts faithfully with kindness, tirelessly with diligence, and has the values of enthusiasm and goodness. Thus, we collectively call our service spirit as: Truthfulness, Action, Sincerity, Goodness, and Kindness.
The Camel Spirit
The Camel Spirit of the Student Housing Service Division is: walk bravely, steady and sure with the camel bell! Do not neigh like a horse, nor sigh with self-pity, since we firmly believe that the other side of the desert is an oasis. We walk step by step like the camels in the desert. We serve with tenacity and without tiredness and firmly believe in our service spirit: “Truthfulness, Action, Sincerity, Goodness, and Kindness”, and will move forward with confidence and stability faithfully.
Gathering at Chung Yuan University
Happy gathering! The Student Housing Service Division enthusiastically uses the public space to display the world map wall, holding dormitory cultural exchange events, allowing foreign boarders to take photos with their own countries’ map, and releasing photos through social media websites and platforms. These events not only promote students’ peace and safety dorm life, but also help foreign boarders to relieve homesickness. Through the digital platform, their relatives, friends and classmates can get to know the care from Chung Yuan University’s Student Housing Service Division.
Broaden The Horizon of Counseling
Every year, our friends visit the dormitories provided by our Residential Services Section, such as the exchange opportunity “Tamkang University and Chung Yuan University meet again in Chungli.”
Aside from the exchange of ideas, suggestions, and successful experiences in the promotion of student housing services and dormitory counseling, the discussion focused on the development trend of environmental protection issues, which will facilitate future concrete actions and changes in counseling.
Off-Campus Housing Safety Workshop
The Off-Campus Housing Safety Workshop will be held every semester with the School Safety and the All-Out National Defense Education workshop. The fire brigade from the jurisdiction is invited to the school to preach safety knowledge such as prevention of carbon monoxide poisoning, electricity use instructions, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Also, the earthquake simulation car, firefighter, and protective clothing are provided for student to experience their usages. Students can thus understand the causes of disasters, fatal factors, and emergency evacuation, which can enhance the knowledge of off-campus housing safety.
Forum for landlords
The forum for landlords will be held annually to discuss house renting related issues. This can enhance the care to student safety. The speakers from local government (Department of Land Administration and Department of Legal Affairs) will be invited to provide professional suggestions for the rental housing contract and share some related experience. The landlords are appealed to join the forum to avoid rental disputes.
